TOWN OF HOLDEN RECREATION DEPARTMENT FALL 2010 ADULT CLASS LIST

KOGA
The Town of Holden Recreation Department is pleased to announce that it is offering a new exercise class:  KOGA.   This combination of  Kickboxing and Yoga is a challenging exercise program designed to build strength and endurance, increase muscle tone, improve cardiovascular and lung function and decrease overall body fat.  KOGA will be meet on Tuesday evenings at Wachusett Regional High School, in Dance Room G106,  from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.   The class will run for 6 weeks, beginning September 14, 2010.   No matter what your fitness level, you will benefit from KOGA.  Pre-registration is required and should be done so one week prior to the first class.  The cost of the class is $50.00. 

ZUMBA
The Town of Holden Recreation Department is offering Zumba classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These 6-week fitness classes combine high energy and motivating music with unique Latin dance moves creating an exciting and effective fitness program for all participants.  These are beginner classes that are fun and easy to do. The Tuesday class will meet in the Mayo Elementary School gym, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning September 14, 2010.  The Thursday class will meet in the Mountview School gym from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning September 16, 2010.  Pre-registration is required and should be done so one week prior to the first class.  The cost (for a 6-week session) is $50.00 for one night, or $100.00 for both. 

8-WEEK HATHA YOGA CLASS
The Town of Holden Recreation Department is offering the following adult class: Hatha Yoga is a stress reduction class that is being offered for an 8-week session. Yoga helps calm the nerves, improve circulation, strengthen and tone muscles, and increase vitality. A certified instructor will teach class, and participants should bring a mat. Classes are held at the Holden Light Department, 1 Holden Street.
Pre-registration is required by September 15, 2010.  Tuesday morning classes will start September 21, 2010 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and/or Thursday morning classes will start September 23, 2010  from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  The cost is $60.00 for 1 morning or $120.00 for 2 mornings a week.

3CPYo
The Town of Holden Recreation Department is pleased to announce it is now offering 3CPYo on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.   These 6-week classes are the perfect exercise classes for all, with 20 minutes of fat burning, easy to follow Cardio exercises, followed by 20 minutes of Pilate's core strengthening and finishing with 20 minutes of Yoga's peaceful stretch and meditation.  The Tuesday class will meet September 14, 2010 in dance room G106 at Wachusett Regional High School, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.   The Thursday class will meet September 16, 2010, in the Mayo School gym, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.   Pre-registration is required and should be done so one week prior to the first class.  The cost is $50.00 for one night, or $100.00 for both. 

YOGA  FOR EVERY “BODY”
The Town of Holden Recreation Department is pleased to announce the evening adult class:   Yoga for Every “Body.”   The 6-week class is about strength, balance, flexibility, and mindful peace.  All of the postures in the class can be modified for your body.   This is a good class to take if you want to learn what Yoga is all about.   Breathing techniques, relaxation, and physical challenges are all a big part of  this program.  A certified instructor will teach class and participants should bring a mat.  Join us to find your inner peace with Yoga.  Classes are being held in the  Mayo Elementary School gym, on Thursday evenings from 7:00-7:50,  beginning September 16, 2010.  Pre-registration is required and should be done so prior to the first class.  The cost is $50.00.  Men are encouraged to participate.  Please call the Recreation Department at 508-829-0263 with questions, or to register.

  WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The Holden Recreation Department is offering the following program:   Women's Volleyball.   Women can play every Thursday evening from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. at the Mountview Middle School.  This program runs September 2010 through May 2011 with a start date of September 9th.  The cost is $20.00 every 10 weeks or $3.00 per night (drop-in rate).  If you have any questions, please call the Recreation office at 508-829-0263.

 MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Holden Recreation Department is offering the following program:   Men's Basketball.  Men can play every Thursday evening from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Mayo School.  This program runs from September 2010 through May 2011 with a start date of September 9th.   The cost is $20.00 every 10 weeks or $3.00 per night (drop-in rate).  If you have any questions, please call the Recreation office at 508-829-0263.

Pre-registration is required in all classes, except the drop-in programs. Please call the Recreation Department at 508-829-0263 to register.   
All programs require a high level of coordination, including facility scheduling, staffing and purchasing of supplies.

Food Pantry Wish List

Please remember your neighbors in need. Call 508-829-2749 , and organize a food drive for the pantry, or donate food at one of the WFP food bins in libraries and post offices throughout the region.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO ASSIST PEOPLE WITH VISION LOSS

MAB Community Services, formerly The Massachusetts Association for the Blind is seeking volunteers throughout the Worcester/Holden area. Volunteers with weekday availability and a car, who would like to lend a helping hand, are needed to drive and escort area residents with vision loss to their medical appointments.

  • A small stipend is available.
  • Training and supervision are provided.

  • 100 percent juice (concentrate unfrozen cans great for storage),

  • canned chicken or ham,

  • shampoo,

  • applesauce or other canned fruit,

  • special diet items like sugar free jelly and no-salt veggies,

  • peanut butter,

  • pancake mix and syrup,

  • toilet paper,
