Disaster / Emergency Preparedness
- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that individuals and families have the following food and safety supplies for at least three days on hand at all times for :
- Drinking water
- Canned / no-cook food (bread, crackers, dried fruit)
- Non-electric can opener
- Prescription drugs and other medicine
- First aid kit
- Rock-salt to melt ice on walkways
- Supply of cat litter or bag of sand to add traction on walkways
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Battery-powered lamps or lanterns (to prevent the risk of fire, avoid using candles)
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio
- List of important telephone numbers
- File of Life
- List of illnesses and/or chronic conditions
- Whistle to signal for help
